Conversation guide
Know which name to give
The front desk looks up the reservation by the name used to book the room. If a colleague or family member made the booking, that name might be different from yours. Have the confirmation handy so you can check the spelling or show the booking if the clerk can’t find it.
Keep dates and nights separate
A question about how long you’re staying can ask for a number of nights. A question about when you’re leaving asks for a date or a day. If you arrive Monday and check out Thursday, that’s three nights. Use the kind of detail the clerk asks for, and confirm the date if either of you is unsure.
Practice a spelling check
Choose a different surname and say it aloud, then spell it slowly. Practice using the reservation name and spelling together so you’re ready if the clerk asks a second question.
